This presentation is an overview of the cooperative efforts among local, state, federal and nonprofit organizations to conserve to the biologically rich Green River, KY. Since the establishment of the Green River Project in 1999 by The Nature Conservancy, conservation partners have worked together to improve water quality and restore more natural flow and temperature regimes to the river system. Two major conservation actions emerged as a result of this collaboration. The first example of a cooperative ecosystem restoration project between the Corps of Engineers and The Nature Conservancy occurred during this period and the reoperation of Green River Dam led to the establishment of the national Sustainable Rivers Project (SRP) between USACE and TNC. In addition, the implementation of the multi-partner Green River Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) is attempting to address water quality concerns. This presentation will address the relative successes and challenges related to the implementation of these conservation actions on the Green River, KY.
